Florida Orange Season

Florida Orange Season

Picking the right fruit may be easy, but falling into the correct season is a whole different story. We often assume all oranges just grow year round, but every member of the orange family has it's peak times. If you're wanting the best tasting orange, we have the chart for you to look at.

Grapefruits: Nov - May
Navels: Nov - Jan
Tangerines: Nov - Apr
Tangelos: Nov - Jan
HoneyBell: Jan
Temple: Feb
Valencia: Mar - Jun
Ortaniques: Feb - Mar
Mango: Jun - Aug
Avocado: Jun - Aug

You can clearly see that are certain types of oranges that can only be harvested for a month. While it's possible to grow oranges and buy them all year round, it's likely that you're not experiencing their peak flavor if you haven't purchased them during their season. You can see that there is no mention of fruits being available in September, which might mean you need to choose a different fruit that month. Don't blame us the next time you bight into a sour orange from the grocery store.
